Lægevagten is an online marketplace where you can find and contact private healthcare providers across Denmark. We help citizens find doctors, dentists, psychologists, physiotherapists and many other health professionals without having to deal with long waiting lists.
2.How do I find a practitioner on lægevagten?
You can search for practitioners by selecting a category (doctor, dentist, etc.), entering a city or postal code, and viewing results on a map and list. You can also filter by opening hours, language, and whether they offer emergency appointments.
3.Do I need a referral to see a private doctor?
No, you don't need a referral to visit most private doctors and healthcare providers on lægevagten. You can contact them directly. This especially applies to private practitioners operating independently.
4.What does it cost to visit a private practitioner?
Prices vary depending on the practitioner and treatment. We show clinics' contact information so you can call and get their prices. Some also offer online consultations which may be cheaper than physical visits.
5.Can I get reimbursement from my health insurance?
It depends on your insurance. Some insurance companies cover or contribute to private practitioners. We recommend contacting your insurance company to find out what you're covered for.
6.How do I book an appointment with a practitioner?
You find the practitioner's contact details on lægevagten (phone, email or website) and contact them directly to arrange a time. Most offer online booking on their website.
7.Do practitioners offer online consultations?
Many do! You can see in the search results if a clinic offers online consultations. We mark all places that have this option so you can search for it.
8.How do I know if a doctor has emergency slots today?
You can filter on 'Emergency slots today' when searching. Clinics mark themselves if they have open emergency slots, so you can see it immediately without having to call around.
9.Can I see the opening hours for a clinic?
Yes, all opening hours are displayed on the clinic's profile page. We show which days they're open, what time they open and close, and if they're closed for vacation.
10.What if a clinic is closed for vacation?
Clinics can mark periods when they're closed for vacation or renovation. This is shown on their profile so you know they're not available during that time.
11.How do I choose between multiple practitioners?
You can compare clinics by location, opening hours, waiting time, language, and whether they offer online consultations. Read the clinic's description and call if you want to know more before booking.
12.Can I search for a practitioner who speaks my language?
Yes! You can filter by which languages practitioners speak. We then show all places that can speak your language: Danish, English, German and many others.
13.What are waiting times like with private practitioners?
Private practitioners often have shorter waiting times than public healthcare. Many have available slots within weeks instead of months. We show if a clinic has known waiting times on their profile.
14.What if I don't know which type of practitioner I need?
We offer a short test where you answer questions about your symptoms or needs. You'll then be matched with the practitioners who can best help you. The test is anonymous and free.
15.Is my personal information in the test private?
Yes, completely private! Your test answers are never stored or shared with anyone. You search lægevagten completely anonymously without needing to create an account or login.

We don't store your personal information. You search lægevagten completely anonymously. Only when you contact a practitioner directly do you share your information with them.
17.What types of practitioners can I find?
You can find doctors, dentists, psychologists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, specialists, midwives, podiatrists, occupational therapists, dietitians and many others. See all categories when you search.
18.Can I find emergency dental help?
Yes! You can search for dentists and filter on 'Emergency slots today'. Many private dentists are open late and on weekends and can see emergencies quickly.
19.How do I find a psychologist without a referral?
Private psychologists can be visited without a referral. Search for 'Psychologist' on lægevagten and filter by opening hours and language if you like. Call or email directly to arrange an appointment.
20.Can I get therapy online?
Yes, many psychologists and therapists offer online consultations. Search for 'Online consultations' when filtering results.
21.What's the difference between a private doctor and my GP?
A private doctor is independent and not attached to a specific health center. You can visit them directly without a referral, and they serve as an alternative to your GP for certain consultations.
22.What if I need a dental crown?
Many private dentists can place crowns. Prices vary, so call around to get quotes. You may also be eligible for reimbursement from some insurance companies.

Yes, private practitioners are professionals with the same qualifications as public healthcare providers. They must follow the same healthcare standards and are regulated by authorities.

Yes, private doctors and practitioners can issue sick notes, certificates and other documents just like their public counterparts.
25.How do I know if a clinic is approved?
All clinics on lægevagten have approved status and comply with Danish health legislation. We only show authorized practitioners.
26.Can I share my location with lægevagten?
You can allow lægevagten to use your exact location to find practitioners close to you. This is only used to sort results by distance. You can also just enter a city name instead.
27.How do I use the map to find practitioners?
The map shows all practitioners in your area. You can zoom in, click on markers to see details, and filter by category to see only the type of practitioner you're looking for.
